DIARY: Frothy goings on at Conservative HQ

Despite persistent speculation that the Tories would plump for Millbank Tower as the site of their new HQ, the party has announced that it is taking up residence above a, er, Starbucks coffee shop.

In what amounts to an obvious affront to the anti-globalisation movement, as well as the Millbank-based tech PR shop Lewis, Michael Howard, Guy Black et al plan to move into the Victoria Street suite asap.

The switch sees the Tories abandon the fusty Georgian facade at Smith Square after half a century to present a more contemporary image, sitting above swarms of metropolitan caffeine junkies.

The offices, at 25 Victoria Street, also look set to be a stage for vigorous lobbying on issues of transport and crime. PRWeek hears that the party will be sharing the premises with the Strategic Rail Authority and the Association of Chief Police Officers. That has to be a fair cop.
