Ryder Cup Wales hires Quadrant

Ryder Cup Wales, the public-private body funding sporting events in the run-up to and including the 2010 event has hired Cardiff-based agency Quadrant to its PR account.

The agency will conduct a publicity onslaught to ‘put Wales on the map’, promoting the country as a golfing nation and raising its profile for tourism and investment, according to Quadrant director Warren Carr.

The hire comes as the cup’s venue for 2010, the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, took its PR in-house this week, out of retained agency Howell Petersen.

‘The decision was made purely because we wanted more control over review visits and press relations,’ said Celtic Manor Resort marketing manager Pat Ashman, who will handle the venue’s PR, reporting to V-P, sales and marketing Jon Phelps.

Celtic Manor and Wales are likely to benefit by attracting more tourists, allowing it to compete with other prime golfing venues such as St Andrews in Scotland and The Belfry in England.
