PRESS Sunday Telegraph political editor Colin Brown is to be deputy political editor of The Independent. He replaces Paul Waugh and will report to political editor Andrew Grice. Waugh is now Whitehall editor of the Evening Standard.

Sandra Laville is leaving the Daily Telegraph newsdesk after five years to become a senior reporter at The Guardian. Meanwhile Patrick Barkham has joined The Guardian as a reporter from The Times.

Stephen Glover, one of the founders of The Independent, is planning to launch a national daily tabloid. The upmarket title aims to pick up readers of The Times and Daily Telegraph.

Time magazine has appointed Michael Elliott to the post of Asia editor. Currently editor-at-large, he takes up his new role in May, replacing Karl Taro Greenfeld, who is joining Sports Illustrated as editor-at-large.

Sarah Maber, deputy editor of Hachette Filipacchi’s B magazine, is to become senior features editor of stablemate Red. New editor Frances Sheen was hired to revamp B last month.

Grand Designs, the Channel 4 programme about people with unusual home building projects, has launched a glossy spin-off. Edited by architecture writer David Redhead, Grand Designs Magazine is published by Epping-based Media 10.

James Wilson has replaced James Montgomery as analysis editor of the Financial Times, responsible for the analysis page which appears Monday to Friday. Formerly deputy analysis editor, Wilson has also been the paper’s Colombia correspondent.

ElleGirl, the Hachette Filipacchi magazine for 15 to 19-year-old girls, has increased in frequency from bimonthly to monthly. Launched in 2001, the title carries a mix of fashion and beauty content. Consultant editor is Claire Irvin.

What Car? is to relaunch from April with a redesign which the Haymarket Publishing title said would make reader navigation easier. Editor is Rob Aherne.

Jules March, executive producer of Sky News’s Live at Five bulletin, is to join the ITV News Channel as programme editor in April. He previously worked on what was then Channel Five News, produced by ITN.

Business channel CNBC Europe and FTSE Group have produced the New

EU Index – a summary of leading firms in the ten countries joining the expanded Europe, which it will use in its reports. Director of news and programming is Jeremy Pink.

Sky News Ireland has revealed the team for its evening news service, due to launch in spring. Joining presenter Gráinne Seoige are Ray Kennedy from RTE, TV3’s Brian Daily and Eibhlìn Chonghaile from TG4 News.

Three Carlton executives are to leave after failing to find jobs in the newly created ITV: controller of factual entertainment Nick Bullen, controller of factual Richard Clemmow and head of children’s David Mercer.

High street retailer French Connection is to launch a ‘music heavy’ digital radio station on 1 April. FCUK FM will be broadcast on Sky Digital and on the website, fcuk.com. Head of marketing is Matthew Griffiths.

BBC Online is making content from its Latin American websites bbcmundo.com and bbcbrasil.com available to Invertia.com, the financial and business portal of internet company Terra Lycos. Brian Jarman is business development manager for BBC World Service.
