Maranello Concessionaires, the UK distributor for luxury brands Ferrari and Maserati has poached Al Clarke from the motor industry trade body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) to head a restructured PR operation.
Clarke has joined in the newly created remit of head of comms from being head of comms at the SMMT, where he worked for seven years.
Clarke said Maserati was set for a ‘considerable’ PR offensive as that ‘is where real growth in terms of sales will come from’. The Maserati Quattroporte will go on sale in the UK next month.
Clarke said he wanted to forge partnerships with similar luxury brands to Ferrari and Maserati but there were no plans to hire further external PR support to augment current retained agency PFPR Communications.
PR was formerly handled by media relations manager Silvia Pini, who retains his role but now reports to Clarke.
The SMMT has restructured its comms unit, with Paul Everitt becoming head of comms, economics and policy, and BMW media relations manager Nigel Wonnacott joining as media manager; Andrew Anderz is now PR director for The Motor Show Live.
