Landmine group festival in the US

WASHINGTON: A Miami park was turned into a mock minefield at the end of January in an effort to raise awareness of ‘a tragic after-effect of war’.

The South Florida Landmine Action Group (SFLAG) teamed up with the US State Department for a two-day festival, designed to illustrate the menace posed by the devices left unexploded and forgotten, with particular emphasis on the ‘American hemisphere’.

The State Department’s Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement promoted the issue to journalists worldwide and posted the event on its website.
