AOL members will be given the opportunity to donate online and have access to a special microsite with detailed information about the charity and learning disabilities.
The website, which went live on Friday, will publish on-going news about Mencap’s fundraising initiatives. It is the first such site that AOL UK has created for a charity. Mencap has collaborated in the design and artwork to make it user-friendly for people with learning disabilities.
Mencap will also train AOL employees to develop sites that are easier for people with learning disabilities. ‘We want to understand how to ensure that the internet is as accessible to people with learning disabilities as it is to anyone else,’ said Rachel Engel, AOL UK community investment manager.
As well as providing sponsorship for the charity’s main website, AOL has offered Mencap 50 free internet accounts for use by people with learning disabilities.
