The panel, funded by corporate members to supply them with alternatives to costly litigation, has hired corporate PR shop Macan Rice for the brief.
Macan Rice associate director Harry Hunt said the campaign would try to break out of the CDP’s traditional coverage – the legal press and national papers’ legal pages.
Hunt and Macan Rice managing director Robert Rice report to CDP chief executive Karl Davies.
The Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, another ADR organisation with a wider remit, estimates that around 2,000 disputes are solved using ADR techniques each year. Davies said the figures compare poorly to the smaller market of the Netherlands, where around 8,000 disputes avoid settlement through litigation.
‘The challenge is to increase the profile of ADR suppliers,’ said Davies. ‘We have acknowledged that one of the issues we face is the lack of a wider awareness of the benefits to UK businesses of ADR.’
