Methodist Church seeks media boss

The Methodist Church in Britain is looking for a media relations officer following Murray White’s decision to move to Tanzania after three years in the role.

White said the ideal candidate would have good media experience and, although his replacement does not have to come from within the church, they need enthusiasm for its work. He said the media relations officer remains the media’s first point of contact, but the Methodist Church is also becoming more proactive in approaching the media about its initiatives.

He added that communicating had become difficult because society no longer turned to churches for guidance. He added journalists’ lack of knowledge of its views was ‘astonishing’, despite the church’s desire to produce more considered policy.
