Supermarkets rule the roost on reputation list

Supermarkets dominate this week’s Reputation Monitor, with Tesco retaining pole position on a National News Index (NNI) score of 156.7.

The retailer last week bought convenience stores group Adminstore, the owner of Europa, Hart and Cullens. Somerfield, in second place, gained positive coverage for posting a £6.6m gain on its pre-tax profits.

The launch of Asda’s life insurance scheme and speculation about its potential acquisition of Woolworths gave it 76.7 and third place.

Sainsbury’s also did well out of takeover talk. There were rumours last week that it might be in line to take over the £250m TM Group that runs Martins and Forbuoys.

Retailer WHSmith had a bad week, with speculation that shareholders could vote against its remuneration report at this week’s AGM and demand chairman Richard Handover stand down.
