DIARY: PR is slighted in the latest society bible

If the latest issue of Who's Who is an accurate barometer of which individuals are making the biggest impact on British society, there is some disappointing news for the PR industry.

The latest edition of the annual bible for social climbers nationwide was unveiled earlier this month, but sadly includes not a single additional PR professional outside the shamefully small crop from last year's list, implying that the industry's loudmouths have failed to shout with sufficient volume (or about sufficiently interesting doings) to make it inside.

A staffer at A&C Black, the publisher of Who's Who, manfully searched the latest book (electronically) and confirmed that none of the (roughly) 1,000 individuals fresh into the book this year described themselves in their biographies as PR or comms professionals.

Of the 32,000 entries in the book overall, just 20 are PR professionals - among them a certain Maxwell (don't laugh) Clifford and political PROs Alastair Campbell and David Hill.

It can only be hoped that PROs' notable achievements this year will meet with the recognition they deserve.
