Kerzner International puts global support out to pitch

Luxury holiday resort giant Kerzner International is reviewing its global PR strategy with a pitch process on the cards within weeks.

Helen McCabe-Young, senior vice-president marketing for Kerzner’s One&Only resorts sub-brand, said she was ‘reviewing several options’ for PR support in light of the company’s planned growth.

It is understood that pitches are yet to take place and UK-based agencies have been sounded out for a contract that McCabe-Young said would involve ‘primarily pan-European’ PR.

Kerzner, set up by South African leisure tycoon Sol Kerzner, currently retains Freud Communications on a consumer, corporate and trade PR remit.

Freud director Oliver Wheeler said: ‘Freud Communications instigated a reassessment of the relationship with Kerzner, which has led to an invitation to repitch for the business.’

However, he added: ‘We are considering our options in light of a potential client conflict.’

McCabe-Young said she aimed to have completed the PR overhaul, which also affects undisclosed ‘various representatives elsewhere’, early next year.

Freud has handled consumer PR work such as the relaunch of One&Only Le Touessrok, in Mauritius, in addition to corporate work such as gaining profiles on Sol Kerzner and his son, Butch, in business sections.

McCabe-Young said the PR review had been triggered by Kerzner’s global expansion - One&Only resorts are planned in locations such as Morocco.

McCabe-Young joined in September from a role as V-P of worldwide marketing at

Silversea Cruises, where she worked for four years.

In September One&Only, which was created as a brand one year ago, launched an ad campaign featuring black-and-white photography in the national and trade press through M&C Saatchi.

Kernzer is rumoured to be planning a Las Vegas-style casino and resort at the Millennium Dome.
