Derrane, who specialises in local government work, joined the agency as senior counsellor in 1999 after 15 years at pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, most recently as media relations manager.
The promotion effectively places Derrane on the board of the agency, reporting to chairman and CEO Terence Fane-Saunders.
Derrane said that, due to the structure of the agency, she would not be taking on any specific responsibilities in the new role.
‘I’ll continue to deal with local government and education work, but it is not a separate practice area. Usually if there is a local government client, I will be involved at some level,’ she added.
Derrane becomes one of five executive vice-presidents.
