MEDIA: Telegraph beefs up coverage of films

The Daily Telegraph is reshuffling its Friday sections, doubling its arts coverage with a greater emphasis on cinema, while shrinking media output.

The arts section currently comprises two pages, one of which is film.

From this week, two extra pages will be taken up with film news, features and reviews.

The expansion has meant a move for the two-page media section, edited by Tom Leonard. It has switched from Friday to Thursday to make room for film, and will go down to one page from this week.

Leonard said: 'Something had to give. Unlike all the other specialist pages, such as law and science, we have always had two pages. The new page is meant to be a "big" page.'

The paper's arts editor Paul Gent said: 'This provides the opportunity to showcase our film writers. We didn't have the space before.' The arts and books section in Saturday's Telegraph will still carry some film writing, he added.

New items, such as a box office top ten and a section on classic DVDs, will also be included on Fridays. Gent will oversee the expanded section with assistant editor, arts, Sarah Crompton.
