The role is being overseen in the interim by Amicus’s Scottish regional secretary, John Quigley. Park, who used to be a blue-collar worker for Babcock, returns to the company after several years as PR campaigns officer at Amicus.
Babcock provides housing, stores and general services for naval bases in partnership with the Ministry of Defence. The newly created role will see Park deal with the trade unions he used to represent. He will be in charge of taking forward the firm’s industrial relations policy during a challenging time for the shrinking defence sector.
‘If there are redundancies, they will be small,’ promised Park. ‘I’m actively encouraging trade union representatives to get involved in the decision-making process.’
