DIARY: Dwarf hamster makes precocious start with a spin around media city

In general terms, hamsters only encounter spin when they climb into their wheels. So when Spin Media told us this week its new client was a dwarf hamster, we could be forgiven for thinking they'd gone round the twist.

But it seems that representing Pee Wee the hamster, who is the size of a 50-pence piece, is nothing to sniff at. Spin Media has been inundated with requests for photos and TV coverage of Mr P. Wee, who is believed by experts to be the smallest hamster in the world. Since the Daily Mirror broke the story, Pee Wee has appeared on Blue Peter, Have I Got News for You and The Jonathan Ross Show.

Rodents rarely achieve such fame at the tender age of 10 weeks, usually waiting until they are much older before launching a media career. Spin tells us it's also in talks with Freddie Starr for a joint appearance to help catapult Pee Wee to further stardom. Let's hope he's already eaten.
