Godson leaves his bank job to set up shop with Murray

Goldman Sachs director of corporate affairs Rory Godson is quitting after just a year in the job to launch a financial PR shop in partnership with ex-Telewest director of policy and communications John Murray.

The pair boast strong media experience: Godson is a former business editor of The Sunday Times, while Murray was executive editor of the Daily Express under Rosie Boycott.

Godson leaves Goldman’s in January to co-found the as-yet-unnamed PR company, leaving the US bank hunting for a replacement.

Godson said he had decided to start the business in order to ‘get back to work with my contacts at The Sunday Times while they are still fresh and warm.’

The new firm’s first client will include Goldman Sachs itself, which will retain Godson and Murray to advise on undisclosed projects.

The arrangement does not affect Brunswick, which advises the investment bank’s asset management division and is Goldmans’s only other external PR adviser.

Murray said he hoped to bring with him the clients he has built up over the last year at his consultancy Seahorse Associates. These include City financier and ex-West LB principal finance head Robin Saunders (PRWeek, 13 June).
