DIARY: From balls to the size of people's tips, PR people really can talk funny

It was thoroughly enjoyable mingling with guests at last week's PRWeek Awards.

Launch PR managing director Johnny Pitt and his fiancee, Butlins PR manager Rebecca Caradine, were spotted propping up the first-floor bar and saluting former Biss Lancaster colleagues, while other PROs paired off as the evening progressed.

As the disco raged, Kaizo CEO Crispin Manners and Lewis chief Chris Lewis seemed to be having a good natter (we couldn't help but be impressed by the size of the tip Lewis handed to a grateful waiter, who had fetched him a fresh glass to polish off yet another bottle of red).

Meanwhile, Four Communications joint-founding partner Ray Eglington was busy celebrating his agency's New Consultancy of the Year accolade with bmi corporate comms head Robert Nadin, who delighted those in earshot with an anecdote from his and Eglington's recent golfing jaunt to Magaluf.

The Four man's golf ball - sitting pretty in the middle of the 18th hole's fairway - was mischievously hidden from his view by a golf-cart strategically placed by an anonymous opponent (not Nadin, the bmi man hastened to add).

Eglington, who had no option but to 'drop a shot', duly lost and, as a forfeit, was made to perform an ad hoc comedy routine later in the evening.

His sketch's opening gambit of 'Does anyone here work in PR?' fell somewhat flat, apparently, but - PRWeek trophy clutched in one hand and booze in the other - the Harry Hill lookalike didn't appear overly perturbed.
