Coca-Cola axes role of PA director after three years

Coca-Cola Enterprises, the bottling and distribution arm of the soft drinks giant, has axed its top public affairs role after three years.

Sally McCombie, who joined Coca-Cola Enterprises in the then newly created role of PA director (PRWeek, 15 September 2000), has left the company. McCombie’s duties have been taken on by vice-president of corporate affairs Ian Deste.

A Coca-Cola Enterprises spokeswoman would not comment on the changes to the firm’s communications department. It is not known whether McCombie had another job to go to.

In July this year, the company said it had had to recall 17m cases of Coke following a contamination scare in June, which had spread from Belgium across Europe.

The changes to Coca-Cola Enterprises UK comms function come just five months after the company’s parent slashed six US PR roles and consolidated its North American communications department.
