A key part of the campaign is the release of research saying that a raft of Government sites are failing properly to inform users of vital information.
This is the first time Socitm, which produces annual surveys of council and police websites, has analysed central government sites.
Of particular embarrassment to the Government is the fact that the report describes its e-government signposting service, UK Online, as ‘disappointing’, difficult to use and weak in dealing with information relating to debt.
An Office of the e-Envoy spokeswoman said a review of government online activity was started in July.
The research also suggests that few citizens access central government activity directly on the web.
