Skills body hires QBO to raise its profile

The Sector Skills Development Agency, the body set up to address skills shortages in the workplace, has hired QBO Bell Pottinger as its first retained PR agency.

The agency won the year-long work following a three-way pitch, which began in the summer (PRWeek, 11 July).

The agency’s head of PR Alex Curling said that the brief mainly involved general profile-raising work among opinion formers, such as politicians, businesses and the general public.

Another key aspect of the work is to assist with the launch of the sector skills councils the agency funds and manages. These cover the UK workplace by sector and five have launched so far, the latest being Skills Active, which covers the leisure industry and was launched this week.

Curling said it is hoped that 23 will exist by summer next year. She added that QBO will be working on a joint media relations and advertising push by the end of this month, as part of its ongoing profile-raising work.

QBO previously worked with the agency on two three-month projects earlier this year.
