An estimated 1,400 media and other liggers descended on posh London department store Harrods, for a 'sneak preview', promoted by consumer PR shop Gabrielle Shaw Communications.
The hordes descended on the store's giant Georgian Restaurant, where they gorged themselves on the glazed, creamy confections, as well as Harrods champagne.
Some attendees were initially less than impressed, having had to stand in the rain while GSC staff negotiated a Harrods security alert.
This delay elicited a hostile reaction from one scribe, who noted in the comment book: 'organisational fiasco outside', before tempering this with: 'Heaven inside'.
Other remarks varied from the obscure ('What's a scone?') to the satisfied, but guilty, 'I wasn't disappointed ... feeling a bit sick, though.'
We second that motion.
