UB director Albert Concepcion said the new division hopes to profit from a burgeoning biotech industry in Spain where companies increasingly need to promote expanding businesses.
‘We think we are at a key moment in Europe and Spain for the public acceptance of biotech and its applications,’ he said. ‘Society wants more information about biotech and companies have an obligation to offer it to increase their profile.’
Ulled is currently conducting a study about the perception of biotech in Spain, the results of which will be ready by year-end. Spain’s biotech industry is booming with companies such as Puleva Biotech, Zeltia and Natraceuticals working hard to win regulatory approval and promote products.
UB already handles communications for Monsanto, Nestle and Spanish healthcare company Grupo Grifols. According to Concepcion, UB has a six-strong team working on attracting new business from corporations, the government and biotech foundations.
UB will provide a full range of services including corporate PR, media relations, events and lobbying to clients in Spain and overseas.
