South Bank Centre set for fundraising and lobbying push

The country’s biggest arts complex, The South Bank Centre (SBC), is to launch a lobbying and fundraising campaign surrounding a £70m redevelopment programme.

The campaign will aim to manage relations with the SBC’s local planning authority Lambeth Council, the Treasury, local and national media and its own staff, as the refurbishments get underway.

While the SBC has been granted planning permission for part of the redevelopment, including the £54m refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall, improvements to several public squares around the building have yet to gain approval.

Planning permission has been granted for an extension to the Royal Festival Hall to house administrative staff currently working onsite at the arts venue, but adequate funds for its completion have yet to be raised. The cost of this is expected to be almost £10m.

Fishburn Hedges was drafted in earlier this month to support the SBC’s lobbying, fundraising and PR efforts.
