Ryanair appoints Ulled to run PR for Iberian operation

BARCELONA: Low-cost airline Ryanair has appointed Spanish PR agency Ulled to handle its communications across Spain and Portugal.

Ulled – which has secured a one-year contract – will draw up a corporate comms and marketing plan for the airline, focusing on media relations and events in a bid to boost Ryanair’s profile across the two countries.

Account director Mercè Balañá heads a six-strong account team, which is mainly based in Barcelona, reporting to Ryanair’s Dubin-based communications director Paul Fitzsimmons.

In addition to various airports in Spain – such as Gerona, Jerez and Malaga – Ryanair also flies to Faro in Portugal.

It faces tough competition from Luton-based rival easyJet and also airlines such as Iberia, Spanair and Air Europa.

Earlier this year, easyJet hired Madrid-based PR shop Inforpress to handle its publicity across Spain and Portugal (PRWeek, 25 April).
