WEST BENGAL: The Indian state of West Bengal has appointed Ogilvy PR Worldwide to create and promote a brand image of the state as a top IT destination in the country.

The state government invited proposals from leading agencies in the country, and shortlisted Integral PR, Genesis, Ogilvy PR and Corporate Voice Shandwick.

Ogilvy PR is to handle the account from its Kolkata office, with a team led by Supriya Das.

The project is expected to take six months, and the agency will promote the state’s historical strengths in skilled manpower and infrastructure. GD Gautama, principal secretary to the department of information technology, said: ‘Ogilvy has been given the task of marketing “Vision 2010”. By 2010 West Bengal wants to be one of the top IT states.’

West Bengal, located in the east of the country, is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse states in India, with its main city being Kolkata (formerly Calcutta).
