DIARY: Former York PRO considers libel claim on spin

There is further disconcerting news concerning City of York Council's PR department, which is currently being 'reviewed' by reportedly anti-spin leader Councillor Stephen Galloway.

We reported last week that marcoms head Helen Edwards had quit to join Leeds City Council (PRWeek, 5 September), and that the About York newsletter had been suspended following Galloway's election in May.

Now it has emerged that Neil Sterio, a former York press officer, who left in May and is now press officer at Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, is considering taking legal action against Galloway for alleged libel.

Sterio alleges Galloway libelled him in emails claiming that his work was biased towards the former ruling Labour group and that he was guilty of 'spin'.

But Galloway told PRWeek: 'He would be well advised to accept there is no truth in the allegations he has made and carry on with his own job'.
