Specialist insurer appoints its first comms director

Specialist insurance company Hiscox has appointed Brunswick senior associate partner Fiona Fong to the newly created post of director of communications.

The creation of the post follows a review of PR at the firm that has led to an expansion of the comms department.

Fong, who joined this week, will oversee marketing and financial PR, in addition to corporate PR. She heads a five-strong team.

The previous head of comms role has been vacant for the past year.

Fong said she had no plans to review the company’s retained PR advisers, Maitland for financial PR and Fishburn Hedges for corporate work.

Fong joined Brunswick in 2000 after three years as director of corporate affairs at drug firm Novartis UK (PRWeek 13 October 2000).

Hiscox is a Lloyds-listed company, specialising in unusual insurance, including policies against kidnapping and theft of fine-art collections.
