It's rare indeed for journos to have a spare £5 to spend, let alone £50m, so the opportunity to splurge (an unfortunately fantasy) fortune on leading Premiership talent in return for points was simply too good to pass up.
At the auction for players, held above a Camden pub late last month, PRWeek's executive double-act spent their £50m briskly, capturing Southampton's England striker James Beattie for £16m and Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge for £9m. All from under the noses of 14 rival bosses (mainly staff from Frank and consumer electronics giant Amstrad, an agency client).
Beattie drew a blank in the season's first three games and had us worried, but his goal last weekend against Man United had us cheering, especially as it was 'assisted' by Graeme Le Saux, also in PRWeek's side.
And with an extra £30m of transfer funds still to spend as the season progresses, rival bosses' nerves are already jangling as to which of their players PRWeek may snaffle.
We will, of course, keep readers informed of the progress of our side - currently in fifth place - as the season unfolds, unless we slump to the bottom of the league - in which case it'll never be mentioned again.
