Non-profit firms to enlist student help

Non-profit groups the Crystal Orange and the Eurasia Foundation have joined forces with the @ction newspaper and Agency of Social Information to launch a project aimed at strengthening the economic stability of Russia’s non-profit organisations.

The project, ‘financial stability through Professionalism,’ involves PR students making voluntary contributions at non-profit organisations. There are over 50,000 non-profit groups in the country, most of which are under financial strains exacerbated by a lack of management and fundraising experience.

Between October 2003 and April 2004, students and professors will create a training programme, covering image and reputation building as the key to fiscal health. Study material and teaching guidelines will be made available to NPOs and higher education institutions free of charge. A conference and awards ceremony is scheduled for the end of April 2004, to include the students as well as heads of NPOs from Tyver, Voronezh and Moscow, and heads of government agencies supervising the project.
