RBS gives media relations brief to ex-SNP politician

Former Scottish National Party MSP Andrew Wilson has been appointed as head of group media relations for the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

Wilson, who takes up the role at the end of next month in the bank’s Edinburgh office, will report to head of group comms Carolyn McAdam. She in turn reports to head of comms Howard Moody.

McAdam confirmed that Wilson had been appointed but refused to comment on any aspects of the role he is taking on, or the issues he will be facing. However, she did say that up until now temporary members of staff had filled the post and he would not be directly replacing anyone.

Wilson, who has been widely tipped as a future potential leader of the nationalists, lost his seat after the Scottish parliamentary elections in May.

Earlier this summer, RBS appointed Lansons Communications to promote its credit cards. The agency replaced three-year incumbent Harrison Cowley (PRWeek, 19 June).
