While unwilling to talk in detail about the move Gibbons did admit that she would be handling much of the duties of Cherie Blair’s current PR advisor Fiona Millar. This includes managing her media appearances but would not include acting as her spokesperson.
She said: ‘It’s going to be like the Fiona Millar type role, for example Cherie’s personal visits and interviews with women’s magazines.’
The move comes less than one month after Downing Street denied that the PM’s wife was seeking PR support (PRWeek 18 July).
Gibbons, who leaves Edelman at the end of the month, is also a former Labour Party PRO and special adviser to Baroness Margaret Jay.
Millar is reportedly to step down later this year along with her long-term partner, Downing Street director of communications and strategy Alastair Campbell.
