This is Money set to expand appeal through redesign

LONDON - This Is Money, the personal finance website run by Associated New Media, is being redesigned in a bid to expand its user base, with more information on areas such as property and stock market investment likely to feature strongly.

Steve McDowell, editor of the site, which gets 4.5 million page views a month, said: 'Lots of people find it slightly intimidating. The idea is to give it a slightly broader appeal. Personal finance isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it should be.'

Investment in falling stock markets would also be addressed, he said.

'We shouldn't allow people to be discouraged just because their portfolios have taken a kicking.'

McDowell insisted the site was not 'dumbing down': 'Users are very loyal but not shy to criticise. Whatever the redesign does, it can't afford to alienate, patronise or upset them.'

McDowell, who has been editor for three years, is to quit at the end of the year, by which time the site should have been relaunched. ANM is looking for an editor to replace him.
