Bratislava aims to boost its image

Bratislava: City authorities in the Slovak capital are considering drafting in PR agency support in a bid to boost the city’s image in the West and attract tourists and investment.

Bratislava city council spokesman Milan Vajda said PR agency support was a possibility being considered, as was the establishment of a ‘non-profit agency responsible for marketing the city’, as it bids to raise the profile of the city abroad.

Slovakia is set to enter the European Union next year, and Bratislava is located just 40 miles from Austrian capital Vienna. Yet, Vajda admitted, the city is ‘unknown’ to the ‘average European’ and potential tourists often confuse Slovakia with Slovenia, which was formerly part of Yugoslavia.

Vajda stressed that it was ‘early days’ and a future PR campaign would be limited by budget constraints.

Vajda said the PR aspect of the campaign would be a media relations campaign targetting business and travel editors.

A decision was possible by the end of the year as to whether an agency would be hired, Vajda added.
