VisitBritain adds Sydney Olympics PRO to its line-up

VisitBritain, the body responsible for promoting the country as a tourist destination, has drafted in a senior PRO from the Sydney Olympics to target domestic and foreign travel journalists.

Paul Gauger, currently international media manager with the Australian Tourism Commission in Sydney, will join VisitBritain as destination PR manager later this month. He was the Commission’s Olympics media manager during the 2000 games.

VisitBritain denied Gauger was joining the 27-strong PR team specifically to support London’s 2012 Olympic bid.

Corporate PR manager Orla Farren said: ‘Paul’s skills and experience are very strong. His Olympic experience is an added bonus. One of our key performance indicators is to increase the amount of coverage we get, and PR is vital to that.’

VisitBritain is currently evaluating the impact of its PR activity around the £4 million Enjoy England TV advertising campaign earlier this year.
