Madrid: London-based tech shop Lewis PR has appointed Sofia Martin-Vazquez as general manager for its Iberian arm. The new role includes covering work in Spain and Portugal for clients including GE Access and web firm salesforce.com.

RIO DE JANeiRO: The Brazilian division of French telecoms giant Alcatel has hired Ketchum Estrategia for its PR in that country. Alcatel chose Ketchum through a competitive pitch that included three other agencies, according to Ketchum tech director Vania Gracio.

SYDNEY: Recognition PR has been appointed to handle Australian PR for US business information provider Captaris. It follows the firm’s decision to appoint Brodeur Worldwide in the US, Asia-Pacific and Europe, out of Brodeur’s San Francisco headquarters. Recognition

NEW YORK: MS&L has reorganised some senior staff roles. Michael Marino, previously New York MD, will be chief strategic officer, while Jill Farwell, Joe Gleason, and Mark Hass will be presidents, North America. Offices in LA, San Francisco and Atlanta will report to Farwell. Washington, DC, New York, Boston and Toronto will report to Gleason, while Detroit, Chicago, and Ann Arbor will report to Hass.

SYDNEY: As Portuguese-style BBQ chicken outlet Oporto implements a rapid expansion plan in Australia, the company has appointed Horizon PR to assist with building awareness through product sampling activities and media relations. This is the first time the chain has taken on a PR agency.

McLEAN, VA: SnowSports Industries America, a trade association for winter sports companies, is launching a public awareness campaign to promote the health benefits of winter sports. Called Winter Feels Good, it recognises the US’s nationwide obesity problem and, as a remedy, puts forth activities such as skiing and snowboarding.

WASHINGTON, DC: Publicis Dialog has hired a noted figure in the food and nutrition sector to head up two of its food-industry operations. Lisa Kelly, formerly director of public health for the International Food Information Council, a food-industry comms body, joins Publicis as director of its food commodities group. She will also be director of the firm’s Nutrition Marketing Research Institute, a think-tank formed earlier this year.
