MEDIA: Dow Jones moves towards analysis with new columns

Dow Jones Newswires is adding a mergers and acquisitions column, along with a diary column, to its commentary content.

The moves are part of a trend towards more analysis content on the service, but the M&A interest also reflects what it claims is City confidence about increased activity next year.

Jack Grone, the senior reporter who will write the new DealWatch column, said: 'All the bankers are talking about signs of an upswing. It is still just noise, but most people expect an increase in the first half of next year.'

On the content of the column, he said: 'We see it as a conduit for those who are active in the M&A business, whether they are bankers, lawyers or press people, to talk about what is going on.'

The column will be occasional and aimed at providing behind-the-scenes insight to current developments.

The new City diary, On the Margins, will appear every Friday and be a light-hearted look at 'goings on' in the financial centres of Europe.
