Matthew, who quit Sugar last month having spent the past six months on maternity leave, and Wiles are targeting health-related remits, ranging across NHS, ethical, consumer health and health-policy PR work.
Matthew, who before launching DTC agency Sugar in April 2002 was MD of sister firm Shire Health London for four years, said the advantage of a smaller agency was the ability to ‘provide a more personalised and often more cost-effective service’.
She said an account handler and admin assistant would join Richmond-based Virgo next month, with an ‘aggressive’ push for new business on the cards immediately.
Wiles said: ‘Pressures and overheads within some of the larger agencies are increasingly constraining. The time is right from an industry and personal perspective for our proposition.’
Shire Health Group CEO Gloria Gibbons said that she herself would head Sugar ‘for the forseeable future’.
