Edelman is hit by loss of senior PRO and redundancies

Edelman is losing Jill Rennie after less than 18 months in the agency’s top consumer PR job, it emerged this week.

The news comes as the agency confirmed it is in redundancy negotiations with three members of its seven- strong financial unit, and just three months after the departure of creative director Mark Cooper.

Rennie, who joined Edelman as consumer director in February 2002, said she was leaving to take an opportunity to go travelling.

‘This is my decision – it is based on life outside work. I have worked for 15 years… sometimes you have to take a step back,’ she said.

Chief executive James Thellusson said the redundancies in the agency’s financial arm reflected the difficulties in the sector as a whole: ‘Edelman Financial, like other financial PR practices, has been operating in one of the most competitive markets over the last year.’

In a separate development, tech shop Firefly Communications made three staff redundant this week – two account directors and a campaign manager.

Firefly managing director Claire Walker said the move amounted to a restructuring of the agency, with the firm also appointing a number of new junior account executives in recent weeks. ‘We were more top-heavy than we needed to be,’ she said.
