Coker has taken on a full-time consultancy role at the food and beverage agency this week and will remain a director who sits on the board. His change of role comes only a month after Phipps’s non-executive chairman, Scottish Power corporate comms director Dominic Fry, left his role.
The change in management roles signalled a new direction for the firm, Coker said.
He said the running of the agency would follow a more ‘collegiate’ model going forward. ‘Phipps PR is a small business, so we wouldn’t necessarily need someone in that [CEO] role,’ said Coker, who took up the post in November last year (PRWeek, 7 November 2002).
These changes follow the loss of fast-food client Nando’s at the end of the year, and of the seven-year Sherry Institute of Spain account, won by Jackie Cooper PR in February.
However, Phipps denied the management changes were linked to loss of the Nando’s and Sherry business.
