Northampton wins top AHC award for comms campaign

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust has scooped the top accolade at this year’s AHC Awards for an internal comms campaign to tackle the fallout from its poor Government inspection report.

Awards judge and Department of Health director of comms Sian Jarvis praised the campaign, called Connect, which involved a day of briefings and internal comms activity with staff, including strong personal involvement by the CEO and chairman. She said: ‘They got comms treated as a leadership issue, and the commitment came from the top.’

Connect was launched so that senior staff were on hand to answer questions from all staff in the wake of the last ‘star’ rating announcement – awarded for quality of service provision – in which Northampton received just one out of four stars.

Northampton head of corporate affairs Sally-Anne Watts said that another day of activity is planned to coincide with the next ‘star’ rating announcement in July.
