Volvo Ocean Race appoints firms to push its next event

Volvo Ocean Race, the round- the-world yacht competition, has appointed Karen Earl Sponsorship (KES) and Citigate Dewe Rogerson for a global PR campaign ahead of the next event in 2005-2006.

KES has been charged with increasing awareness of the commercial benefits of sponsoring the race, as well as raising the profile of the race itself.

CDR and its sister Incepta network agencies will handle presentations to the business sector.

The campaign will run in the UK, the US, Australia, France and Germany.

‘This event is often said to be the Formula One of yacht racing, and in terms of sponsorship benefits it is becoming ever more comparable with Formula One. We’ll be putting that message across,’ said KES director Alison Moor.

The Volvo Ocean Race circumnavigates the globe, stopping at ten cities on the way. The next race starts in Europe and includes stopovers in South Africa, South America, Australia and the US.
