The move comes as the firm attempts to expand its current retail base, which includes John Lewis, Hamleys and Harrods.
The campaign will be handled by the firm’s retained agency, SimComm Europe.
Rainbow Designs produces toys and gifts aimed at children, many based on classic literary favourites.
SimComm marketing director Jane Perez said PR strategies would involve using media relations to target specific industries, such as the gift, toy and nursery sectors. The brief also includes exhibition work.
SimComm will focus initially on Rainbow’s best-known characters: those by Beatrix Potter, Paddington creator Michael Bond and Raymond Briggs, whose characters include The Snowman and Fungus The Bogeyman.
Simm’s appointment last month was the first PR hire by Rainbow Designs for five years.
