Bell Yard handling media relations in Horkulak lawsuit

Litigation PR specialist Bell Yard Communications is handling media relations on a £1.5m constructive dismissal case being brought against broking firm Cantor Fitzgerald International.

The agency has been hired by Steven Horkulak, formerly senior MD and head of global interest rate derivatives at Cantor.

He is claiming constructive dismissal and breach of contract, alleging that he suffered threatening and humiliating verbal abuse and bullying.

Cantor is contesting the action, which reached the High Court this week. The trial is being heard by Mr Justice Newman and is expected to last five days.

Horkulak was employed by Cantor in London from Feburary 1997 to June 2000. He is reported to have joined on a ‘golden hello’ first-year salary of £400,000.

Bell Yard directors Richard Elsen and Melanie Riley, plus consultant Peter Shackleton, are working on the account.

Cantor’s UK vice-president of PR Cara Kiewel has not hired litigation PR support, and is believed to be handling the firm’s side of the case with her in-house team. However, the company does retain Edelman for general corporate PR advice in the UK.
