Edelman shuts down Rio operation

Following the loss of the majority of its accounts in Rio, Edelman has closed its office in the city and is concentrating its Brazilian operations in its Sao Paulo headquarters.

The only staff to survive the closure are general director Gustavo Bernhoeft, who is likely to be transferred outside Brazil, and Rafael Veras, who will continue to handle the Xerox account from within the clients Rio-base, but will now report to Sao Paulo.

According to general director of Edelman Brazil Ronald Mincheff the decision to close the Rio office came from Edelman's world headquarters. He attributed the decision to a mixture of local market conditions and on-going legal battles.

The agency began to lose clients late last year, when general director Andrea Gouvea Vieira left the company along with four other staff. She remains in dispute with the agency.
