Freuds' music PR division closes as staff set up shop

LONDON - Freud Communications has closed its small but high-profile music PR division, it emerged this week.

Freuds' two music PR staff -- publicity director Jonathan Hackford and account director Simon Jones -- have quit to set up their own agency.

Famous Freuds clients, including the band Mis-Teeq, as well as Geri Halliwell, have moved across to Soho-based Hackford Jones PR.

Hackford Jones is also handling personal PR for TV presenters Cat Deeley and 'Big Brother 2' winner Brian Dowling, although Freuds continues to promote the Saturday-morning show, 'SMTV Live'.

Freuds chairman Matthew Freud confirmed his agency had ceased to handle "artist reputation" work, but stressed it continued to work for clients with music interests, such as drinks giant Pepsi.

He said Hackford and Jones had his full support and he had even referred business to them. The pair -- who joined Freuds around six years ago -- said they had been in discussions with MD Kris Thykier and Freud himself since January about their plans to leave.
