WESTMINSTER: The partnership between Westminster and Richmond councils is continuing with the arrival at Richmond of Ivor Jones, a PRO from Westminster, on a six month secondment. Meanwhile, Westminster has recruited three new media officers: Carly Simpson from the Australian Daily Telegraph, Jon Taylor from the NFU and Jason Leavey, previously with public sector events PR firm Neil Stewart Associates.
BOWEL CANCER: Haygarth has been appointed to implement a national PR campaign for the charity Beating Bowel Cancer. The work will support a poster campaign and will aim to increase awareness of symptoms among GPs and the public. The PR campaign will take place
in June and July and involve consumer and trade press.
SHEFFIELD: Sheffield City Council has asked All Credit Media to publicise the ‘increasingly upmarket’ attractions of the city’s nightlife. The agency’s campaign is based around a new guide – the
Dirty Stop Out’s Guide – which features details of 300 city centre establishments. There
is also a website at www.dirtystopoutsguide.co.uk to encourage people to visit the new facilities.
LANCAShire: Wyre Borough Council has appointed a new PR officer. Val Cowan was formerly PR manager for Edge Hill College of Higher Education and, before that, a journalist on the Blackpool Gazette and the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
CHARITY: The Royal National Institute of the Blind is launching a media offensive to support a tie-in with children’s TV channel Nickelodeon. The channel’s Rugrats characters will feature on RNIB badges to be sold in Tesco stores and Barclays Banks. The promotion is to support the RNIB’s Eye Health Campaign on the importance of regular eye tests.
RSPCA: The RSPCA is to launch a lobbying push against Norway and Japan with the challenge that they prove their whaling activities are not cruel. It is asking the countries to provide this month’s International Whaling Commission with details of how whales are killed and how long it takes for each animal to die.
