Winner: Alex Myers, founder and global CEO, Manifest
Alex Myers set up Manifest in 2009 with the mission of building brands that change the world. The world has changed a lot in that time, but Myers’ ambition hasn’t. Nor has his desire to avoid what he says is a common agency mistake, of chasing trends and short-term strategies at the expense of the bigger picture.
Last year was a pivotal one for the agency, including opening an office in Los Angeles, its second new site in 24 months after a successful Melbourne launch in 2021. These have enabled Myers to create what he calls the world’s ‘first unified agency’. This reflects both the work Manifest delivers and its internal mechanisms: resourcing is managed centrally, processes are streamlined and there is one global P&L, meaning the consultancy can deliver a 24-hour global creative service for its clients.
Manifest won nearly 50 new clients across 16 sectors in 2022, including SC Johnson brand Babyganics, Tommee Tippee, and Pernod Ricard, which enlisted Manifest to support it in building a more responsible, sustainable and inclusive whisky industry. In addition, it became global creative agency of record for Reckitt’s Lysol and Dettol Pro Solutions brands.
It was also Manifest’s year of investment in becoming a ‘deliberately developmental organisation’, creating a skills-based training programme, new appraisal structure and an internal future leaders initiative. Myers’ commitment to his people and the greater good is further demonstrated by global salary increases of 12 per cent to support staff through the cost-of-living crisis, retention of the Blueprint standard for diversity, equity and inclusion, and steering Manifest to B Corp certification.
“Inspiring. Alex and his agency are relevant, creative and achieve great results with great clients, and have an impressive focus on caring for their talent.”
