MEDIA BRIEF: Broadband internet take-up gains momentum

BROADBAND: High-speed broadband internet take-up finally appears to be gaining momentum in the UK, with news that there are now more than 2 million subscribers. According to figures from telecoms watchdog Oftel, there are 35,000 new broadband connections a week, raising fresh hope of meeting ministers' targets of 5 million by 2006. An Oftel spokesman said: 'Increased competition and lower prices have boosted connection rates.'
