Adam Smith will report to Elspeth Rothwell, who set up Vested’s London office in January 2018. Formerly UK chief executive, Rothwell was recently promoted to EMEA CEO, with an expanded remit to oversee international growth and delivery alongside her UK responsibilities.
Smith departs Teamspirit after more than 14 years, including four years as managing director. While there he worked with clients including Tesco Bank, Shawbrook and Charles Stanley. Vested said Smith was “pivotal in developing Teamspirit’s fully integrated communications proposition”.
His remit is to “lead the continued growth trajectory of Vested in the UK”, the agency said.
Smith’s appointment follows a strong period of growth at the agency, which has offices in New York and London. Global revenue is set to grow by almost 40 per cent in 2022 to £19.5m. In the UK, where Vested employs 15 staff, revenue is expected to increase by about 10 per cent to £2.5m.
Rothwell said: “We are thrilled to welcome Adam to Vested to help us build the next phase of our business. As we enter year five in the UK in 2023, in many ways we have only just begun to fulfil the potential that we can see before us.”
Smith said: “I am joining Vested because of its incredible success story so far and the sheer potential of the business. I believe it is perfectly positioned to deliver truly creative and fully integrated programmes across the UK and internationally. I’m confident we have the right formula to not only grow but also serve as the benchmark of excellence in financial services marketing communications.”
Vested's clients include LinkedIn Financial Services and Canada Life UK.
Vested launched in 2015 when former Cognito executives Dan Simon and Binna Kim partnered to launch the New York-based firm with a focus on financial and fintech communications. The agency is a founding member of the Global Fintech PR Network and operates an investment group, Vested Ventures.
Meanwhile, Jo Preston has taken over as acting managing director at Teamspirit following Smith's departure, reporting to CEO Kirsty Maxey. Preston is a group board director at Teamspirit and heads up the PR team, having been with the business for over 10 years.
