Community work in focus as Tesco creates new post

Supermarket giant Tesco has created a local press officer role as it bids to boost media coverage of its community work.

Laura Voyle - who took up the job earlier this month, having moved from a post as CSR manager - will also promote the extent to which Tesco sources products from local suppliers.

Tesco has faced negative press in towns including Gerrard’s Cross, Buckinghamshire, where locals have claimed that the planned opening of a store could put local shops out of business.

Voyle reports to Tesco external comms manager John Church, who said she would handle PR on store opening issues, but stressed this work was mainly handled by Tesco’s property PR department.

Tim Hopson has replaced Voyle in the CSR role.
